Third-party overseas warehouses keep improving. After weighing the pros and cons of whether Amazon sellers should use overseas warehouses, here's how we frame the decision.
Advantages of overseas warehouses
1. Improve delivery service efficiency
Overseas warehouses sit in the destination countries for cross-border e-commerce, so products reach buyers faster. Compared with international express delivery and small parcels, the supply chain is shorter at the end of the journey: no cross-border transportation, customs declaration, or clearance steps for the last leg. Items ship directly from the overseas warehouse to the buyer, removing time-consuming complexity.
2. Improve customer shopping experience
Returns and exchanges are inevitable, and they're much easier from an overseas warehouse. We can test products, replace packaging, and otherwise prep returned items so they can be resold — reducing operating costs. Reference U.S. delivery times: 1–2 days in the West, 2–3 days in the central U.S., and 2–4 days in the East.
3. Reduce logistics operating cost
For medium and large sellers, shipping in bulk during the off-season is normal. In FBA first-leg logistics, sea freight is the cheapest mode — far below air freight or international express — and the bigger the volume, the lower the per-unit cost. You can't always send everything to Amazon directly, so overseas warehouse storage (or dropshipping out of the warehouse) becomes the right tool.
4. Avoid Amazon's peak-season problems
During Amazon's peak season, port congestion, FC queuing, listing slowdowns, and forced liquidations are common. Sellers stocking up 2–3 months before peak and shipping into overseas warehouses can transfer to Amazon just-in-time when FC inventory runs low — avoiding being stuck in transit and missing the best sales window. (The peak window for the second half of the year runs from Black Friday through Christmas and New Year.)
5. Improve buyer trust and store repurchase rate
U.S. buyers prefer sellers shipping from local U.S. fulfillment points. Faster delivery improves the shopping experience, which lifts repu
